Your Guide - Cap't Jeff James

I am a native of Gloucester, Va., where I grew up on the water and in the woods, fishing, hunting and playing ball. I was given my first boat on my 8th birthday and from that moment on I have pretty much been in constant pursuit of anything that swims, runs, crawls or flies. Once I finished Gloucester High School, I attended Randolph Macon College, where I played baseball, met my wife and graduated with a degree in Business/Economics and a minor in Art and Religion. After Macon, I made the difficult decision to leave my family’s business and moved to Nags Head, NC with the determination to try to find my place among the legendary Oregon Inlet offshore charter fleet. With some help and direction, I got my start and from the summer of 1989 until 2011, I made my living charter and tournament fishing from the Hudson Canyon to Charleston SC, throughout the Bahamas, the Florida Keys to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and Costa Rica. I spent 7 of these years in the cockpit with some of the best captains in the industry and later operated my own offshore charter business, Reel Deal Charters, out of Oregon Inlet for nearly 15 years. I put a lot of people on a lot of fish and also made a good showing in numerous billfish tournaments up and down the coast. We were even lucky enough to win a handful. During the course of this 20-some year roller coaster ride, my wife Jennifer and I have been blessed with 3 lovely children; Emili, Ashlen and Brady.

Probably the most rewarding part of my business experience has been the opportunity to meet and guide thousands of people from all over the country to my brand of a good time; hanging out, eating good, sharing tales and having fun in pursuit of whatever we were after. Many of these folks, I consider my friends today. Watching my guests enjoying themselves and knowing that I helped facilitate it is very satisfying. It doesn’t matter whether we’re shooting ducks, catching trout, calling to a turkey, throwing tuna on the deck, or dragging out a nice buck; it all feels the same. It is what fuels our kind.

Of all of my sporting passions however, light tackle fishing and duck hunting in the rivers, bays and sounds rank right at the top. The serenity that often accompanies this kind of sport is good for the soul. The older I get, the more I realize and appreciate this. The setting, tranquility and close nature of it all gives the Captain and crew a better chance to get to know one another. My idea of success is not only measured by simply what we catch or take, but also by the opportunity to enjoy our surroundings and each other’s company during a day spent on the water or afield. As your guide, I promise that I will always make every effort possible to provide you and your friends or family with a first class outdoor experience and it is my goal to establish the kind of relationship that will keep us fishing and hunting together for years to come.

Normal Fishing trip rates are for 1- 3 adult anglers. A fourth adult angler may be added for an additional $75. Family groups may consist of 2 adults and 2 children, 12 or under, at the normal rate.

April - September

1/2 Day Fishing (6am-10:30 am) or (1pm-5:30pm)...............$395.00

Full Day Fishing (6am-2pm)...............$625.00

Couples Afternoon Shopping and Fishing (3pm-5:30pm)...............$195.00
Drop the ladies off in Downtown Manteo at the Waterfront Shops and take the guys out for a few hours of afternoon casting on the East side of the island. 2 couple limit per trip.

Sunset Cruise (1 ½ hours leading to sunset)...............$150.00
Bring your own libations and cruise around Downtown Manteo and Shallowbag Bay. Enjoy the sights with your friends and arrange to be picked up and dropped off at one of several waterfront restaurants in town to make it an evening (4 adults or 2 adults and up to 3 kids).

October - February

Fall Fishing...............$495.00
(1-2 anglers) Most of this season takes place in the closer quarters of the creeks and rivers of lower Dare and Hyde Counties. Often cool weather and hot action on bigger fish. Trips are six hours in the boat, morning or afternoon, depending on the fishing and weather. Local lodging available. Experienced anglers preferred.

Waterfowling...............$200.00/hunter
We can accommodate as many hunters as you care to bring. We offer hunts from Stake blinds, marsh blinds, float blinds, scissor rigs, curtain boxes, layout boats and impoundments…We are part of a local network of licensed and insured guides that maintain a variety of blinds and leases all over Eastern North Carolina. This courteous, professional and hard working crew, all fish and hunt for a living and will make every effort available to show you and your group an enjoyable day in the blind.

Payment Information

Once we have booked your date, a $125 deposit per trip must be received within 10 days in order to hold that date. Cancellations made by the booking party within 14 days prior to the booked date will be fully refunded. Any cancellations made less than 14 days prior to the booked date will be forfeited to Barrier Enterprises and we will re-open that date. If immediate re-booking is available, we will try our best to be as fair as possible with you. The balance of the booked trip is due in full on the date the trip is scheduled.

Payments may be made by cash, checks made out to Barrier Enterprises Inc. or a valid credit card. Returned checks will incur a $40 fee in addition to the amount in question to be paid in full to Barrier Enterprises Inc. By scheduling a trip with Reeldeal OBX, you agree fully to the aforementioned terms.
